Literacy Fair

This March, we hosted our 19th annual Literacy Fair promoting the importance of literacy in an effort to help families and children thrive in their education.
We gave out hundreds of books for kids categorically selected to their grade level.
Thank you to all our guest readers; volunteers, learning experts, librarians, community leaders, and school administrators, and the Del Rey Community Jazz band who made our event extra special!

We also want to thank our partner organizations:

Women’s Day Lunch

For the first time ever, Mar Vista Family Center hosted a Women’s Day event where we invited all the young women in our community to connect, educate and empower one another. Here at MVFC, we strive to help women embrace the best version of themselves and make a difference in our world, despite the challenges we face in our community.

Thank you to our panelists; Suzette Martinez, Liz Lopez, Yemily Leiva and Alma Sernas who took the time to share their stories, address important issues, and inspire the future generation of women leaders.
Our female empowerment discussion and activities were followed by a delicious lunch and a shopping spree boutique! Thank you to LMU’s sorority, Pi Beta Phi, for volunteering at our event and promoting the importance of women leadership.

College and Career Fair

This Spring, our By Youth For Youth (BYFY) program invited representatives from several universities to come out to MVFC and offer college and career advice. Our students were able to make connections with different representatives, learn more about college and build new academic skills. We had a variety of students attend the fair this year, from preschoolers to high school students. Here are MVFC, we believe it is never too early to start planning for college! A successful event hosted by our educational youth coordinator and leadership coordinator!

Thank You to all our university representatives that came out to our College and Career Fair:
