Be A Volunteer

Be a Volunteer

We need you

Volunteers make up a key part of the Mar Vista Family Center (MVFC) family, offering their time and energy to make a difference in the lives of families and the MVFC community. To get started right away, fill out the appropriate online volunteer form below, or email the volunteer coordinator to schedule an orientation. All MVFC programs are based on the Shared Responsibility Curriculum Model, in which members of the community work together with other volunteers to provide educational and enrichment opportunities. MVFC invites interested volunteers to become part of the MVFC family and help out with one of the many ongoing activities held at the Center:

After-School Tutoring

Volunteer to help children and youth K-12 with homework, reading, and fun learning activities. Sessions are held from 4-7pm, Monday-Thursday, throughout the academic year (August – May). Volunteers work one-on-one or in small groups and may choose between subjects and grade levels. Science, math, and writing tutors are especially needed.

Arts & Enrichment

We rely on volunteers to offer dance, theatre, music, art, and other enrichment activities throughout the year for all ages. Bring your passion to MVFC today.

Preschool

As our founding program, the MVFC Preschool is a wonderful place to witness the Shared Responsibility Curriculum Model in action. Spots are limited and interested volunteers must demonstrate the ability to work well with teachers, parents, and small children. Hours are 8:45am-12pm, Monday-Friday, throughout the year.

*Livescan Is Required & Immunizations Must Be Up To Date.

Special Events

Are you only available on weekends, or do you want to involve your group or organization? MVFC events are held throughout the year, including quarterly community cleanups, the annual literacy fair, and the Music & Arts Festival—all of which are great starting points for groups to get involved.

Examples of other volunteer opportunities include: STEM activity leaders, nutrition, fitness and sports, mentoring, pre-teen youth groups, hot meal program, fundraising, ESL, and adult education (bilingual preferred), computer instructors, administrative, environmental education, and more.
