Financial Literacy
Mar Vista Family Center, in partnership with financial institutions and other corporations, provides interactive and age-appropriate presentations for children, youth, and adults on various financial topics including personal budgeting, the basics of banking and savings, and the importance of maintaining good credit. These presentations guide participants through real-life scenarios, group discussions, and practical activities designed to help children, youth, and parents improve their understanding of financial concepts and services so they are empowered to make informed choices to improve their present and long-term financial well-being.
In these programs, young children are introduced to the concepts of spending and saving money. They learn how money works, where money comes from, and financial needs versus financial wants.
For teens, the presentations include practical tips and activities focused on balancing a checkbook, budgeting, saving for future goals, and addressing how career choices affect their future earning potential.
Adults in the program learn how to manage their money wisely to reach their financial goals. Lessons include personal budgeting, the basics of banking and savings, money transfers, preparing to become a homeowner, saving for college, maintaining good credit, and starting a business.
