MVFC has re-opened and we’re so excited to see you!

Seppy’s Summer Camp returns for 25th Year

After a rough year of virtual programing and doing our best to support our families through food distribution, case management, rental assistance, and virtual programing, we are finally open once again. This summer MVFC brought back summer day camp to over 45 kids in the community, taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of both kids and staff. Activities were altered, staff were vaccinated, and everyone masked up. The end result…an amazing summer for all!

To nourish their imagination and creativity, they did arts & crafts, STEM, and literacy activities. Although it was summer break, MVFC recognized the importance of including educational activities to support children who’s academics were impacted by the pandemic.

Kids started their mornings each day with a performance or team challenge lead by their camp counselors, and then went on to participate in fun activities that helped them stay active such as sports, dance, and Zumba. To support their mental health, children learned yoga and meditation as a way of relaxation and coping with their feelings of anxiety.

After a whole year of limited interaction with other kids, campers were anxious see each other. While some reunited, others found new friends. With so many kids experiencing the challenges brought on by the pandemic, it was great to see their resilience coming through during camp. Not only were they so excited to see other children, they learned to support and respect one another.

Learning STEAM with GENESIS

This year, MVFC’s summer camp had the opportunity to work with GENESIS, an amazing organization that provided two weeks of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) activities. Kids started off learning about different environmental problems that our planet faces, and then were encouraged to challenge them in teams using technology, engineering, and/or art. Second grader, Jayden, created a clay model of a robotic shark that would swim through the ocean and to collect trash.

In week two, children were excited to bring their drawings to life through coding. They experienced the process of drawing a character, scanning it, and giving it movement and sound. MVFC kids had a blast learning with GENESIS and we hope to continue building on this new partnership throughout the year.

2021 Surf Camp

For the second year, kids from MVFC had the opportunity to learn to surf thanks to the amazing Clark brothers. Volunteers, Will and Owen Clark, dedicated a week of their summer vacation to share their passion of surfing with our kids, with the support of surf instructor, Kiyo. Taking after their older brother Ben, who started this project in 2019, Will and Owen found a creative way to practice their leadership skills and enjoy themselves at the same time.
